Swona is home to some rare species of flora.
White Clover Story
At one time Swona had no white clover, only red clover. One of the Swona residents, Edward Norquoy (Ned, as he was known), had moved to Nelson in Canada but returned to Swona for a while to look after his parents just before World War One. When they died he moved back to Canada, but before he left, he bought 1lb of white clover seeds and scattered them in various pieces of good land in Swona, so that the island residents would have something to remember him by.
